Laurie has a degree in fashion design and has worked in the fashion industry in Toronto, London and Prague. She has appeared in promotional videos for Toronto-based design team Mercy and has worked as a scenic painter in the Toronto film industry.

Laurie's first film role was in the B&W comedy short How Audley, which she also co-wrote and co-directed. Sleep Always is her first feature role, in which she also contributed the painting in Janice's apartment, helped in production on the set and made her debut as a foley artist.
